Elon Musk claims that WhatsApp cannot be trusted, now introducing features similar to WhatsApp on Twitter

Elon Musk said that WhatsApp cannot be trusted after a Twitter developer claimed that WhatsApp had been using its microphone in the background as he slept. The Twitter employee provided a screenshot of an Android dashboard to support his claims. Musk responded to the tweet by suggesting that the platform cannot be trusted. On the other hand, the CEO of Twitter is giving Twitter access to WhatsApp like voice and video chatting features.

A developer for Twitter named Foad Dabiri shared a screenshot of an Android dashboard on Twitter. The screenshot shows that from 4:20 to 6:53 in the morning, WhatsApp had background access to his microphone.

“WhatsApp has been using the microphone in the background, while I was asleep and since I woke up at 6 AM (and that’s just a part of the timeline!,” Dabiri posted on Twitter. What is happening?

Elon Musk responded to the tweet by tweeting “WhatsApp cannot be trusted.” There is however more to this story.

WhatsApp acknowledged the problem in a tweet and said that an Android bug was to blame since it “mis-attributes information in their privacy dashboard.” The user’s phone was a Google Pixel, and WhatsApp asserts that it got in touch with Google to investigate and offer a fix. WhatsApp later tweeted that users had “full control” over their microphone settings and that the microphone is only activated during calls, voice notes, and video recording.

Musk recently stated that he was bringing WhatsApp-like functionality to Twitter in the meantime. In the near future, Twitter users will be able to respond to any message in Twitter threads with a direct message (DM) and “any emoji.” Additionally, users will be able to make audio and video calls on Twitter, much like WhatsApp. Twitter has experienced considerable changes since Elon Musk took over ownership of the social media platform. The two biggest adjustments Musk made were the elimination of the historical blue ticks from accounts that refused to subscribe to Twitter Blue and the launch of the Twitter Blue subscription.
