Digigiggles: A Twist to latest iPhone15 coming with USB-C port

A Twist to latest iPhone15 coming with USB-C port

As per order by the European Union, iPhone has no option but to include USB Type-C port in its iPhone. But this has been added with a twist. According to reports, iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro’s USB-C port and charging cables will come with authentication chips which will be a lighting type and will ensure their compatibility are only limited to Apple approved accessories.

The said cables will come up with their own custom integrated circuit (IC) interface for the port that will lead to compatibility issues with the this-party charging cables. Integrated circuits are semiconductor chips that are meant to facilitate communication between devices.

The report mentioned that the new IC is destined for new MFi-certified peripherals. This would be the first time the company has included this feature in its USB-C ports whereas USB-C interfaces used by Apple in the 10th generation iPad, iPad mini, iPad air and iPad pro do not have an IC chip for authentication.

Impact on charging speed

There is quite a possibility that Apple may restrict certain features such as fast charging and high speed data transfer limited to certain devices.

According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the speed of the USB-C port on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 plus is limited to USB 2.0 speeds which is similar to the lightning port. Whereas, faster data transfer speed is enabled only in iPhone 15 pro and iPhone 15 ultra.
