The Very strong cyclonic storm Biparjoy is anticipated to worsen in the next 24 hours, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather service also predicted that the cyclone would move north-northeastward. “Very severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy passed over the east-central Arabian Sea near latitude 16.0N and longitude 67.4E at 2330 hrs IST on June 9th.” “The storm is expected to intensify further and move north-northeastwards over the next 24 hours,” IMD warned in a tweet.
High waves were seen at Tithal Beach in Gujarat’s Valsad on the Arabian Sea coast in anticipation of Cyclone Biparjoy. Tithal Beach has been restricted to travelers as a precautionary measure until June 14. Tehsildar TC Patel of Valsad told ANI, “We told the fishermen not to go out into the sea, and they all came back.” If necessary, people will be relocated to the seaside village. Shelters have been constructed for them. We have blocked Tithal Beach to visitors until June 14th.”
The weather service has also cautioned fishermen not to travel into the seas off the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep, as Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to intensify in the next 36 hours. Meanwhile, a Twitter video depicted the aftermath of Cyclone Biparjoy at a school in Vellore, Tamil Nadu.
Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode, and Kannur were among the districts in Kerala placed on yellow alert on Friday.The monsoon will move into the remaining sections of Kerala, as well as some parts of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and the Northeast, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday.
According to the IMD, the wind speed caused by Cyclone Biparjoy is projected to reach 45 to 55 knots on June 10, 11, and 12. According to the weather service, the speed could reach 65 knots. Light rains and thunderstorms are also forecast in coastal areas, including south Gujarat and Saurashtra. “All ports have been asked to hoist the Distant Warning signal,” Manorama Mohanty, Director of IMD’s Meteorological Centre in Ahmedabad, told PTI.
The IMD recorded a very severe cyclonic storm over the east-central Arabian Sea at 11:30 p.m. on June 8, 840 kilometers west-southwest of Goa and 870 kilometers west-southwest of Mumbai. In an earlier report, the weather agency noted that “VSCS BIPARJOY over east-central Arabian Sea, lay centered at 0530 hrs IST of 08th June, near lat 13.9N & long 66.0E, about 860 km west-southwest of Goa, 910 km southwest of Mumbai, would intensify further & move north-northwestwards.”
