and Akshay Kumar After Two Decades

After nearly two decades since its initial release, the blockbuster cop action drama ‘Khakee’ is set to make a comeback with a sequel. The 2004 film, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, featured an ensemble cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, and Tusshar Kapoor. ‘Khakee’ was a massive success at the box office, grossing over Rs 500 crore.

Aryeman Ramsay, actor-filmmaker and son of the late producer Keshu Ramsay, who supported the original film, confirmed the sequel in an interview with News18. He revealed, “Yes, we are planning a sequel to Khakee. The scripting is underway, and we have a basic plot in mind. We intend to commence production next year, marking the 20th anniversary of the original film, which still holds a special place in the hearts of fans and audiences.”

Without revealing many details, Aryeman added, “It’s an entirely fresh script, set in contemporary times, and it also continues the story from the original film.”

Regarding the casting, Aryeman explained, “My family shares a close relationship with Akshay sir. However, due to the plot, his character does not feature in the sequel. As for Ajay sir (Ajay Devgn) and Aishwarya’s characters, they also do not continue in the story. I am planning discussions with Amitji (Amitabh Bachchan) as soon as the script is finalized. Additionally, I am keen on having Tusshar Kapoor reprise his role. Alongside them, we will introduce a fresh cast. I have also spoken with Rajkumar Santoshji, and I’m eager to have him direct the sequel.”

‘Khakee,’ released in January 2004, narrated the tale of an Indian police team’s mission to transport a Pakistani spy from a secluded town in Maharashtra to a Mumbai prison. The film achieved significant success and became the fifth highest-grossing film of the year. The sequel to ‘Khakee’ is sure to generate excitement among fans of the original and cinema enthusiasts alike.
