In the Third ODI India clinched the three match series by 3-0 on Sunday by beating Sri Lanka by a record 317 runs.
Virat Kohali with an epic score of 166 not out was his third century in four innings as India wiped out Sri Lanka with a record 317 run win in the third ODI and sweeped the series on Sunday. There was a fluent partnership in the opening 95 runs between our skipper Rohit Sharma (42 off 49) and Shubham Gill (116 off 97). Afterwards Kohli (166 off 97) shooted India’s score to an unmatched score of 390 for five which lead to his 74th International hundred and 46th in the 50-over format. The Srilankan players could not retain our fast bowler Mohammad Siraj who struck four times inside the 10 overs and left no scope for the opposition.
With the biggest margin of victory in the history of men’s ODI India was able to beat Sri Lanka all out at 73 in 22 overs.
The match totally belonged to King Kohli. The 34 year old was back to his best after a three year wait for an international hundred in the Asia Cup last year.
Kohli is left only with 3 shorts for equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries. Kohli has a remarkable ratio of getting his 46th ton in 259 innings whereas Tendulkar took 452 innings to get his 49 centuries.
Before Kohli took the pitch, Shubham Gill played some high quality strokes making a way towards his second ODI hundred. His said effort has increased the faith of the management team of giving him the scope of opening ahead of Ishan Kishan, in the series who has already scored a double hundred earlier.
Lahiru Kumara 23 run over in the initial stage of innings added fuel to India’s performance. After he was flicked for six over deep mid-wicket, Gill went for straight boundaries off Kumara, three on the off side and one was a leg side flick of a full toss.
Though Rohit was good at the other end but was out against the run of play while performing his signature shots named the front foot pull.
Kohli had run exceptionally well between the wickets and had a whirl of boundaries in order to gather runs. He was left with a smile on his face when his first sixes came in the 80s with a miss hit over long on.
On his 99th there was a boundary which happened with the collision between Ashen Bandara and Jeffrey Vandersay were running for the ball from deep square leg and mid wicket. After the incident both the fielders were stretchered off the field.
The last 10 overs were incredible for India as it scored 116 runs with Kohli and was overjoyed with his century. There were sixes raining from his bat after the achieved milestone and There was a shade of MS Dhon’s helicopter shot which brought a big smile on his face. Most of his shots were from the cow corner rSri Lanka was never in the chase in front of India’s huge score.
