Threads, Meta’s Twitter competitor, has 100 million sign-ups in 5 days, prompting Mark Zuckerberg to respond

Meta launched Threads, a text-based communication network, on July 6, and word quickly spread. Users began installing the application out of curiosity, and the application had users talking about their experiences within hours of its release. Threads was earlier rumored to have received millions of downloads within 24 hours of its debut. And now, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has revealed that the app has received 100 million sign-ups in just 5 days without the usage of any advertising materials.

Over the weekend, 100 million people signed up for Threads, according to a post by Mark Zuckerberg. We haven’t even started running promotions, so that is primarily organic demand. It’s difficult to believe only five days have passed. One user responded to Zuckerberg’s post with, “It’s simple, you created a platform that doesn’t push alt-right nonsense, hate speech, and disinformation on important issues like climate change – please continue this direction because the people are loving it,”

The launch of Threads coincided with significant changes that Twitter was making, including restrictions on who may view tweets, a daily limit on how many could be viewed by non-users, and more. These adjustments infuriated a lot of people, who then started looking into alternatives. Customers have increased at Bluesky, which is backed by Jack Dorsey. A successor for Twitter is not intended for Threads, according to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri.

In a recent IANS article, Mosseri claimed that Meta has no aspirations to take the place of Twitter with Threads. The Mark Zuckerberg-led company is putting more of its efforts into creating a “public square for communities on Instagram that never really embraced Twitter and for communities on Elon Musk’s platform that are interested in a less angry place for conversations, but not all of Twitter.” In other words, Meta is focusing on creating a less forceful platform for users who first didn’t fully accept Elon Musk’s Twitter. More topics beyond only current affairs and breaking news will be covered in Threads.

You can access threads using the login information for your Instagram account. As soon as you download the app on your phone, the option to “Login with Instagram” will show up. After choosing the option, you may sign up by providing your Instagram credentials. However, the sign-up process simply needs a single tap if your phone is already connected to your Instagram account. You have complete discretion about whether to alter your Instagram username to Threads or leave it as is.
