WTC Points Table: India slips below Bangladesh in latest ICC rankings after loss against England in Hyderabad

India lost their home Test match against England in Hyderabad, and as a result, dropped below Bangladesh in the most recent WTC rankings. Following their victory at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in the first Test match of the series, England completed a historic victory against India on Sunday, January 28. England took a 1-0 lead over Rohit Sharma’s team after defeating India by 28 runs in the opening Test.

India is currently ranked No. 5 in the WTC points table as a result of its decline. Australia is top of the WTC standings, followed by South Africa, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and India in fifth place.

In the current World Test Championship competition, the Indian team has played five Test matches. They have two victories, two defeats, and one draw. India has split its Test series with South Africa and the West Indies, winning one each, and losing the other with England. The only draw for India was with the West Indies.

India vs England, 1st Test

After a thrilling four days of cricket, in which Ben Stokes’ England overcame all odds to secure a historic victory, India was defeated by England. After dominating the first two days of the Test match, Ollie Pope mounted a tremendous comeback to turn the tide of the match in India’s favour. Pope’s 196 runs was regarded by Stokes as one of the greatest innings ever by a subcontinental foreign hitter. Pope’s valiant efforts put India up against a formidable 231-run target, which they were unable to meet.

In the last inning of the game, the batting order struggled against debutant Tom Hartley’s spin. In the first Test match, the spinner picked up seven wickets in the second innings and helped England win by a total of twenty-eight runs.

The second Test match will now take place in Vizag, where the action will change. All eyes will be on the Indian hitters, particularly on Shubman Gill, who has struggled to fill the role of number three.
