Nvidia unveils new AI chips
A Bloomberg report states that Nvidia unveiled Blackwell, a new generation of its AI chips. The Blackwell processor design was unveiled at the GTC conference in San Jose, California. The chips are expected to significantly increase processing speed for tasks involving inference and training. With 208 billion transistors, the Blackwell chips will be used in future products and computers for large data center operators such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Oracle.
Furthermore, the GB200, the first Blackwell chip, is scheduled for release later this year. Furthermore, Nvidia offered more powerful chips to entice users to upgrade. The report also notes that obtaining the current “Hopper” H100s and similar chips continues to be a challenge for many software developers and businesses. Nevertheless, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated at the conference that “we require bigger ones,” adding that “Hopper is great.”
The report also disclosed that the new chip design necessitates novel techniques for seamless operation and poses manufacturing challenges because of its large number of transistors. Thus, Nvidia’s manufacturing partner Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. will utilize its 4NP process in production.
Blackwell, the next generation of Nvidia’s “superchip” lineup, will also improve AI data processing capabilities and connectivity with other chips. Users will be able to choose networking chips that use Ethernet or InfiniBand, two proprietary protocols, and pair Blackwell with Nvidia’s Grace central processing unit. Additionally, Nvidia intends to incorporate the new chip into its HGX server machines.

Huang disclosed information about Project Groot, which involves a new computer that is based on Blackwell. He also mentioned that makers of humanoid robots will have access to Project Groot. By observing humans, robots will be able to pick up human-like movements and comprehend natural language. Huang said that taking on these challenges was one of the most fascinating things in AI at the time.
In an attempt to end the event in a distinctive manner, Huang invited two robots to approach the stage with him. He declared that “everything that moves will be robotic” in the future and disclosed that these robots were trained using Nvidia’s simulation tools.
