IMD issues a severe to very heavy rainfall warning for numerous states today

On Monday (September 4), the India Meteorological Department issued a warning for severe to extremely heavy rainfall in numerous parts of the country. Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall today, according to the latest weather forecast from IMD. Heavy rain has been issued for Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and Karnataka by the Met Department. The weather service has also issued an orange signal for areas of Telangana today. 

Rain is not expected in Delhi till September 6, according to the IMD. According to the weather forecast, the temperature and humidity levels will stay high during this time. The Met Office predicts that the national capital will have constant cloud cover over the next five days. Furthermore, strong winds may provide some relief from Delhi-NCR’s high heat. For the next 48 hours, parts of Odisha may get widespread heavy rain. Thunderstorms and lightning are also forecast in sections of North Odisha and coastal Odisha, according to Senior Scientist Uma Shankar Das.

“Thunderstorms and lightning are also predicted in North Odisha…Dhenkanal, Angul, Kalahandi, Boudh, and Kandhamal have all been warned of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall…During lightning and thunderstorms, people have been advised to seek safe shelter…”People should avoid trees and bodies of water,” Das advised. Furthermore, high to very heavy rainfall is expected in various Odisha districts during the next 4 to 5 days, according to the latest weather forecast.

A variety of weather conditions are expected in the eastern half of India over the next few days. On September 3-4, parts of West Bengal may have mild to moderate rainfall, widespread thunderstorms, and lightning. From September 3-7, Odisha will experience similar weather trends. Meanwhile, rain and thunderstorms are expected in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from September 3-5, with isolated heavy rainfall on September 4. Isolated heavy rain is also expected in Odisha from September 3-5 and again on September 7. 

In South India, the IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall with widespread showers and isolated heavy rainfall from September 3-7 in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Kerala, Mahe, and Telangana. Coastal and South Interior Karnataka will have similar weather on September 6-7, while North Interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema will have similar weather today. Isolated heavy rain is also forecast for Coastal Andhra Pradesh over the next two days, as well as Telangana from September 3-5.

Light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning with isolated heavy rains are expected in West Madhya Pradesh on September 6-7, East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on September 5-7, and Chhattisgarh on September 3-7 in Central India. On September 5, South Chhattisgarh may get scattered heavy rainfall. According to the most recent IMD weather forecast, Konkan and Goa will witness light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning, with isolated heavy rains, from September 3-7, while Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada will see similar conditions from September 5-7.

Finally, on September 6-7, the Met Office forecasts light to moderate scattered rainfall, thunderstorms, and isolated occurrences of heavy rainfall in Assam and Meghalaya, as well as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
