The acclaimed 1972 movie “Bawarchi” is set to be remade under the direction of director Anushree Mehta. ‘Mrs Undercover’, starring Radhika Apte, marked her directorial debut in 2023. For those who don’t know, Hrishikesh Mukherjee directed “Bawarchi” in the beginning. Among the stars in it were Asrani, Jaya Bachchan, and Rajesh Khanna.
Rabi Ghosh’s 1966 Bengali film “Galpo Holeo Satti” was remade as “Bawarchi. Tapan Sinha served as the director. It has been confirmed that Anushree Mehta will direct the remake. “A kaleidoscopic combination of being excited, honoured, humbled coupled with the awareness of shouldering a ‘massive responsibility'” was how she put the directing experience to use.
Anushree talked about the moment the movie’s producers asked her to remake Gulzar’s legendary film “Koshish,” Rajesh Khanna’s “Bawarchi,” and Mili. When Sameer Raj Sippy, my business partner Abir Sengupta (Jaadugar Films), and I decided to collaborate to produce these three classic movies, we were very clear that we would do everything possible to recreate them with the utmost care and respect. Abir and Sameer suggested during our talk about “Bawarchi” that I should write and direct the remake.
“They were confident that I could tell the story in a way that would make them proud,” she went on. We shared a common vision, and I enthusiastically accepted to join the team as writer-director.”
The adaptation of “Bawarchi,” written by Anushree Mehta, is complete, and she plans to start shooting in 2024. The movie’s casting is currently in progress, with the goal of landing an A-list actor.
