Selectors of Australia declared a strong squad of 16 players on Thursday with all their trio all-rounders after the injury for their next month’s three-match ODI series in India. Glenn Maxwell will return after a broken leg, Mitch Marsh is returning after an ankle injury and pacer Jhye Richardson is returning after a hamstring to international cricket during the series.
Maxwell and Marsh were on significant break due to their surgery for their respective injuries. Richardson is back after he played for Australia last year and was in good form during the BBL until the injury put him back.
Where Pat Cummins will lead Australia, the powerful batters like David Warner, Steve Smith, and Marnus Labuschagne are also expected to get featured.
Australian chief selector George Bailey claimed that this series would give Australia enough exposure and practice ahead of the ICC Men’s cricket World Cup that is scheduled to be held in India later. It will be an important step towards the preparation for the World Cup which is just seven months away.
Experienced seamer Josh Hazelwood will be absent from the test tour of India as he is still struggling with the achilles injury.
The first ODI between Australia and India will be played in Mumbai on March 17 and the remaining two games in Vizag on March 19 and Chennai on March 22.
