WhatsApp Working on New Android Interface, May Include Bottom-Placed Navigation Bar: Report

WhatsApp, Meta’s instant messaging platform, is constantly adding new features to improve the user experience. The app is currently working on a new user experience for Android users. The future UI will supposedly be comparable to that of iOS, making the transition from Android to iOS and vice versa easier. The Android app will receive a bottom navigation bar as part of the upgrade. The most recent development has been discovered on WhatsApp beta for the Android 2.23.8.4 update.

According to WhatsApp development tracker WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a new user interface for Android users, including a redesigned bottom bar. According to the source, the new UI appears to be identical to WhatsApp for iOS. It will make switching from Android to iOS and vice versa easier. Users will be able to rapidly access crucial services such as chats, calls, communities, and status from the bottom-placed navigation bar with the new version.

The update tracker website also published a screenshot of the future Interface, which shows a bottom-placed navigation bar with four options: Chats, Communities, Status, and Calls. WhatsApp for Android and iOS currently have separate user interfaces. The new bottom navigation bar functionality has been detected in the WhatsApp beta for the Android 2.23.8.4 upgrade.

Notably, there has been no comment from the firm about the feature. It is still unknown when the new UI will be made available to beta users for testing. It is expected to be included in a future app version. Meanwhile, the instant messaging software has been rumored to be working on the option for Android users to lock certain chats using a fingerprint or passcode. By simply locking certain conversation windows, users will be able to lock and hide their private chats from others. Additionally, media content such as images and videos transmitted in a locked chat will not be immediately preserved in the phone’s gallery.
