Some of them are; Sachin Tendulkar, Saina Nehwal, Mary Kom, Sardar Singh, Sania Mirza, and many more. Here, we are going to mention ten astonishing sports moments of 2022.
1) FIFA World Cup 2022
The FIFA World Cup 2022 was an international Football tournament contested by the men’s national teams of the FIFA member association and the 22nd edition of the FIFA World cup. It was held in Qatar from 20th November to 18th December 2022. 32 teams have been participating in this tournament. Not only this, 64 matches were played in eight venues across five cities. Argentina became the champion after playing the final match with France. Lionel Messi, Argentine Captain was nominated as the Best player of the tournament and won Golden Ball. Another player from Argentina, Emiliano Martinez awarded Best Goalkeeper and Enzo Fernandez was voted for Young Player Award and won the Golden Glove. The Tournament set a new record for the highest number of goals i.e. 172 goals with a 32 format. This match mesmerizes all football lovers.
2) The 2022 ICC Men’s T-20 World Cup
ICC 2022 Men’s T-20 World Cup was the eighth T-20 World Cup Tournament. It was held in Australia from 16 October to 13 November 2022. 45 matches were well played there with 16 teams. The final tournament was played between England and Pakistan where England beat Pakistan by five wickets and win their second ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Title. Sam Curran was awarded Player of the Match as well as Player of the Tournament. India didn’t win the final match but their performance was amazing throughout the tournament. It is a very proud moment for Indians that our favorite player Virat Kohli becomes the first batter to score 4000 runs in T20s and has been awarded as the highest scorer of 296 runs in this tournament.
3) Women’s Asia Cup 2022
In this Tournament, in the final match, India beat Srilanka by eight wickets and become a seventh-time winner. A tournament was due to take place in Bangladesh in 2020 but postponed to 2021 and due to covid it shifted to 2022 and played in 2022 at Sylhet in Bangladesh in October 2022. Mitali Raj was the highest run scorer i.e. 588 runs for this match and Netu David was awarded as the most wickets scorer, she took 26 wickets all over the tournament. We can say that women made Indian Glory.
4) IOA Athletes
On November 14, 2022, a team of 10 Olympians including Gagan Narang, Mary Kom, P.V Sindhu, and Mirabai Chanu elected as a member of the Athletes Commission of the Indian Olympic Association(IOA) at Nehru Stadium. This is a glad moment for India.
5) The 2022 IBA Youth World Boxing Championship
It was the 22nd Boxing tournament were took place in La Nucia, Spain from 14th to 26th November 2022. It was held under the supervision of the IBA, the world’s governing body for amateur boxing, and was open to boxers born in 2004 and 2005. It was the first time when both men and women played in the same championship. It was very proud for Indians that boxers Vishwanath Suresh, Vanshaj, and Devika Ghorpade recorded a commanding 5-0 win to bag gold at the IBA Youth Men’s and Women’s World Boxing Championships 2022.
6) Asian Airgun Championship 2022
The Asian Airgun Championships took place at Daegu International Shooting Range, Daegu, South Korea from 9th to 19th November 2022. This was the 15th Asian Airgun Championship where India won 25 out of 28 gold medals.
7) Women’s FIH Hockey Nations Cup 2022
This tournament was organized by the International Hockey Federation and was held at Estadio Betero in Valencia, Spain between the 11th to 17th of December 2022. India won the match while playing with Spain, and was promoted for the 2023-24 Women’s FIH Pro League.
8) World Athletics Championship,2022
World Athletics Championships was held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, United States from 15th to 24th July 2022. On 23rd July 2022, Indian Athletics Neeraj Chopra won a silver medal in this Championship with a throw of 88.13m. This is the happiest news for Indians.
9) Aditiya Mittal becomes Indian Glory
The 16-year-old boy won the title of India’s 77th Grandmaster during the chess tournament in Spain.
10) Women’s Air Pistol National Shooting Championship 2022
The 2022 Women’s Air Pistol National Shooting Championship was held in Bhopal. The 27-year-old Karnataka shooter Divya T.S. has got her first women’s 10m air pistol national title at the 65th National Shooting Championship.
