Grok, a new AI chatbot platform inspired by The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, has been introduced by Elon Musk. Grok, created by Musk’s xAI business, is powered on the Grok-1 language model. It is still in its early phases, but it promises to reinvent AI talks via wit and intelligence.
Grok is the culmination of Musk’s desire to develop an alternative to Big Tech firms’ A.I. chatbots. In his perspective, industrial behemoths such as Google and Microsoft (MSFT) are too focused on business and don’t care enough about A.I. safety. Nonetheless, when he founded xAI in July, he mostly recruited from Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and DeepMind.
Here are five facts regarding Elon Musk’s latest ChatGPT competitor Grok AI chatbot.
Elon Musk’s ChatGPT-rival Grok AI chatbot: 5 things you need to know
- Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has unveiled “Grok,” an AI chatbot with a humorous and entertaining personality. Musk was inspired by The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and Grok is intended to respond to inquiries in a humorous manner.
- The chatbot was created by Musk’s AI business, xAI, and is powered by Grok-1, a huge language model. It has proven problem-solving ability, albeit it presently behind the most powerful ChatGPT model, GPT-4.
- The new AI chatbot can access anything posted on the X platform, allowing it to keep up to speed on world happenings in real time. The firm intends to provide consumers a tool that can work as a research assistant, let users rapidly access information, and inspire new ideas with the debut of Grok.
- Elon Musk demonstrated Grok’s humorous attitude by asking for a “step-by-step” instruction to producing cocaine. Grok then presented a four-step tutorial but did not go into specifics on how to produce cocaine. “Please don’t actually try to make cocaine,” it warned at the conclusion. It’s unlawful, hazardous, and something I’d never recommend.” Grok’s answer contained amusing steps such as “obtain a chemistry degree” and closed with a caveat that any unlawful conduct was discouraged. Musk remarked at the AI safety summit at Bletchley Park, “I mean, for the first time, we have a situation where there’s going to be something that is going to be much smarter as compared to the smartest human.”
Musk also made a bold prediction during a talk with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at the same event, foreseeing a future in which artificial intelligence (AI), which includes computer systems capable of simulating human-like jobs, will eventually overtake all human employment. “There will come a point when no humans will be required to do a particular job,” Musk stated.
- Returning to Grok, the chatbot is still in its early stages of development. It will first be available to Premium+ users of X’s top-tier subscription service. Access to the chatbot is now restricted to a small number of X members in the United States as part of an early access program, with further features and capabilities planned over the coming months.
