Mark Zuckerberg says Meta Quest 3 is far better and cheaper than Apple Vision Pro, period

At the moment, Apple Vision Pro is the talk of the town. Everyone is engrossed in the conversation, though some people adore it and others are skeptical. The headsets are generating so much excitement that even Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, couldn’t resist trying them out. That or Zuckerberg wasn’t overly pleased with the amount of attention the Apple headsets are receiving. After all, Meta’s Quest 3 VR headsets have the most competition right now in the form of the Vision Pro. Thus, in a video that he posted, Zuckerberg tests out the Apple Vision Pro headsets and essentially comes to the conclusion that, even with their excellent specs, Meta Quest is simply better—it’s faster, better, more affordable, and more.

In the video, which Zuckerberg shared on Instagram, he contrasts the Apple Vision Pro with the Meta Quest 3. After testing the video for a short while, the Meta chief claims that the Quest 3 is not only more affordable than its rival, but also better in every aspect. “Not only do I believe Quest offers a better value, but I also believe Quest is a superior product overall,” he stated.

Zuckerberg also highlights in his video the compromises Apple had to make in order to incorporate a top-tier display into a wearable device. He says the Quest 3 is lighter, more flexible, and has a wider field of view than the Vision Pro. He goes so far as to mention that the Quest 3 weighs 120 grams less. In closing, Zuckerberg emphasizes the costs that separate the Vision Pro and the Quest 3, stating that the former was “about seven times cheaper.”

Why is Zuckerberg even reviewing the Vision Pro?

CEOs of tech companies frequently test the products of their rivals. Sundar Pichai, for instance, has acknowledged using Samsung devices in addition to his primary Pixel in order to compare and stay up to date with rivals’ updates. Although Zuckerberg’s comparison of Quest 3 and Vision Pro makes sense, it doesn’t seem appropriate to undervalue a competitor in a video. In an effort to make the Quest 3 appear better, he minimizes the more noticeable features of the Vision Pro headset while praising the Quest 3’s pricing and other features.

For example, users of Vision Pro can operate the device without a hand controller, but Meta Quest 3 needs a joystick or tracker. Although this makes controlling Vision Pro simpler, Zuckerberg brushes off the resemblance to Quest 3, blaming it on personal preference. He claims that he likes Quest 3’s hand-based controls better than the Vision Pro’s eye tracking. To be fair, Zuckerberg did concede that Quest 3’s content makes for more immersive experiences than the Vision Pro, but he still gave it high marks.

There are undoubtedly benefits to the Meta Quest 3, particularly considering its lower price. That’s it; the Quest 3 had the advantage of being the first mover as well. Although the Apple Vision Pro is an intriguing product, its adoption is still in its early stages. It is also evident that the device is not flawless. Both the Meta Quest 3 and the Vision Pro have performance gaps of their own. Nonetheless, it is simply not tasteful for the CEO of Meta to be analyzing its rivals and overpricing its own goods.
