Rohan Bopanna sets his eyes on Paris Olympics after historic Australian Open 2024 win

Rohan Bopanna is eager to compete well in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris because he has clearly defined his goals. After defeating Matthew Ebden in the men’s doubles final on Saturday at the Rod Laver Arena, the seasoned player recently became the oldest person to win a Grand Slam.

After winning his quarterfinal match at Melbourne Park, Bopanna, now 43, became the oldest World No. 1 in doubles.

There will be a maximum of 32 teams from each nation competing in the Olympics in Paris. The top 10 ATP players will advance to the doubles bracket, but they will need partners who rank in the top 300.

While this is going on, Bopanna is searching for a partner for the forthcoming event, which is set for July 26 to August 11.

“The fact that our men’s doubles team will undoubtedly travel to Paris is the main thing that has rekindled, and that is really encouraging. By the end of the previous year, I was aware that we wouldn’t even have a shot at qualifying unless I continued to rank in the top 10. And now that I’ve won this Grand Slam, I’m positive I’ll stay in the top 10. So we definitely have a spot at the Paris Olympics.“, Bopanna stated

“Additionally, the chances are equal. You could very well have the most amazing week after all. You already know that things can truly change, as last week’s events have demonstrated. And that’s the crucial component. And we have good players, so I can now work out who I can play with and select the appropriate partner,” he continued.

Bopanna had earlier ruled out competing in mixed doubles. He and Sania Mirza lost the semi-final in the 2016 Rio Olympics, preventing him from taking home a medal.
